RTI International –-Tamworth, Staffs go for CMM Retrofication from Status Metrology
RTI International Metals Inc are renowned world-wide for the supply of Custom Engineered alloys and parts in high-quality titanium and speciality metal products designed and made-to-spec. Their markets are focussed in Aerospace, Defense, Energy, Medical and Performance Sports.
A substantial increase in their UK business has necessitated a move to new premises in Tamworth, Staffordshire along with a review of their QC CMM capabilities.
Their 10 year old CMM was demonstrating signs of unreliability in performance and was in need of upgrading. After an extensive market survey of presentations and evaluations Status Metrology, with their 'industry standard' Pc-Dmis CMM Software and controls, were selected for the task of Retrofication.
Measurement accuracy trials were carried out on the machine before and after the upgrade to ensure precision was either matched or improved upon.
Relocation Manager, John Flynn said "We had a very tight schedule for relocating the factory which included trying to ensure manufacturing downtime was at a minimum. Status Metrology exceeded all our expectations by 'going the extra mile' working late and at weekends to help our cause. I would like to make a special mention of thanks to the Status engineers Matt Hicklin and Matt Trafford for their efforts and enthusiasm whilst being put under pressure to deliver on time".

Following on from the recent Pc-Dmis User Seminars held in mid November, we would like to re-emphasise a number of issues which were raised for users of Pc-Dmis Version 4 onwards.
Tolerancing Standards:
By default Pc-Dmis systems as despatched are configured to conform to the American ASME Y14.5 Geometric Tolerancing Standard!
If users require to apply the ISO1101 Geometric Tolerancing Standard instead, then a modification to the 'settings editor' is required.
