BEDDIS KENLEY trades up
and increases measurement performance.

Beddis Kenley in Leeds, an independent precision engineering company, specialising in the manufacture of critical parts for Oil & Gas flow systems, have part exchanged their existing CMM for a larger capacity more accurate and capable machine.

Due to investments elsewhere in their factory targeting larger machined components, their Quality department were tasked to produce more informative inspection reports with increased traceability and conformance to satisfy their rapidly expanding client-base.

Quality Manager Dave Schofield, said "having researched the internet I found Status Metrology. Their quick response from my initial enquiry and cost effective no frills solution to our needs was what I was looking for. CMM operators are the critical link in the measurement and inspection chain. Training them can increase the value and usability of measurement systems. In addition to specific software training, operators will benefit from courses in basic computer skills, fundamentals of measurement, introduction to GD&T, CMM operation, advanced measurement and analysis techniques, and basic and advanced SPC training.

Training can be arranged to suit work schedules and can held either at our facility or on-site at the users premises.

Over the last year some companies have been forced to consolidate their business to become more efficient in these challenging conditions. With this in mind companies have taken the ruthless decision to merge their businesses into one site in the UK or move premises to another country to avoid unnecessary overheads such as purchasing, manufacturing and metrology.

Its because of these reasons we at Status Metrology have been tasked to Dismantle, Transport or Export and Recommission CMMs on a more regular basis than we have ever seen before. The first steps in such a process would be to ascertain the Risks associated and to try and ensure that everything conforms to our quality standards:

• visit the factory to carry out a machine site survey

• establish the overall dimension and weight of the machine

• is there a Machine Transport Clamp Kit available? If not we would have to make one

• do we have to dismantle the room?

• organise packaging if moving overseas

• organise lifting and transportation to include comprehensive Insurance cover

• are export licences required

• ensure our engineers equipment travel carnets in place

• hotel bookings etc

• try and ensure that services are available at the destination site

• travel to new site to recommission the machine

These are just a few of the steps required to perform what might seem a simple task and sometimes things can go wrong so we try our utmost to minimise these circumstances.
